I Think it is Time

I never saw myself running for public office. Politics just did not appeal to me. However, with the string of events we have witnessed unfold over the past eight weeks, I feel obligated to step up and take a stand. I devoted 24 years of my youth to the service of our country and, in the past eight weeks, I have seen nothing but Republican trashing of the government and, more disturbingly, the Constitution of the United States.

Every member of the United States Armed Forces takes the oath of service, whether enlisted or officer, to “…support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” I am to surprised that Trump took a guillotine to the top JAG officers of all the branches of the military. Those officers KNOW, without a doubt, what their OBLIGATIONS are as officers in the armed forces. Trump, likely knowing there to be resistance inbound from these officers, took an offensive step in his move to authoritarianism to head them off; and Republicans let him do it!

I have nothing against he Democratic Party. I feel most are trying to do what they can, with the exceptions of Senators Schumer and Fetterman, to prevent a totalitarian take over of our government. In 2022, when the Republican Party kowtowed to Trump and raised him as their pariah, I divorced the party. I had been a Republican-declared voter since I registered to vote in 1996. I saw what was going to happen now back in 2022 and I am so happy I switched to no party affiliation. All of these events set the stage for my decision this past week.

I have filed with the State of Florida to run as a Non-Party Affiliated candidate for Florida’s 4th Congressional District in the House of Representatives. I have seen our representative, Aaron Bean, spout praise about his party and continue to placate his constituents with promises that Trump means well. If the last eight weeks say anything about what Trump is doing for our nation, Lord help us for the next 46 months of his presidency. I look forward to campaigning against the lack of Republican action to keep our Executive Branch in check and representing my fellow North Floridians in Congress. It’s time to step up and take a stand!
